Students in this class will be encouraged to combine flameworked parts with furnace-worked forms to create innovative narrative objects.
Tom will demonstrate hot-joining techniques and describe the historical research underpinning his practice. The class will respond to themes of metamorphosis and wonder, seeking insight into relationships between glassmaking and wider cultural concerns.

Striving to invigorate the audience experience of glass has led Tom to adopt immersive installation strategies and collaborate with digital animators. Tom’s exhibitions are challenging in content and form while offering the audience a hopeful and humorous experience. Tom’s work has been featured in high-profile surveys of Australian contemporary art however he also maintains strong links with a lineage of traditional craft.
As production manager at JamFactory from 1999 to 2014, Tom made varied products and trained graduates in disciplined production of design and exhibition objects.
Tom is currently a practice-led PhD Candidate at the University of South Australia.
