Kids

There is something for everyone at the Canberra Glassworks and this includes children of all ages.  The Canberra Glassworks has a dedicated team of Education staff including artist teachers that all work together to provide stimulating and fun experiences for kids, most particularly during each school holiday period.

Each holiday the Canberra Glassworks offers a 20 minute tile fusing experience with a theme as well as a  more educational focused and indepth 3 hour class that is linked to the current exhibition.  This enables children to view the art in the exhibition and then be inspired to create their own piece of art that they can take home. It’s a dynamic experience that really brings the art and the medium of glass alive for the participants.

In addition to holiday classes, each year the Canberra Glassworks holds a Kid’s Design Competition whereby children as young as 4 years of age are asked to draw a themed picture.  These are then judged by glass artists and the two winning designs are then created in glass in the Canberra Glassworks Hotshop.

All year round there is the Message in a Bottle experience open to children of all ages.  Around the Canberra Glassworks building and exhibitions can be found a red bottle with a clue. Children are encouraged to find the bottles and solve the mysteries!

For school groups our Visitor Experiences staff are happy to tailor a visit according to your needs.  Most school groups enjoy a tour around the historical building followed by a tile fusing experience that the children get to keep.  A visit to the Canberra Glassworks is a unique and engaging addition to any visit to the nation’s capital.
