The Canberra Glassworks provides the unique context in which artists will be able to create their work. Artists can hire facilities and studios to create their own work, apply for awards and residencies and get in touch with the Glassworks to discuss exhibiting their works.
Canberra Glassworks state-of-the-art hire facilities will include a full hot-shop with 350kg tank furnace, four glory holes and benches; a complete complement of coldworking tools and equipment; extensive facilities for a wide range of wax and mould making process for glass casting; a fully equipped flameworking area including eight (8) torches under a ventilated hood and extensive fleet of kilns covering the gamut of kiln-formed processes.
This comprehensive facility translates into important production, exhibition and retail opportunities, as well as learning and work opportunities for glass artists. Canberra Glassworks will also provide opportunities for glass artists to teach, demonstrate and assist across the expanse of public and artistic programs.
Many glass artists form Australia and overseas have contributed to the development of the Canberra Glassworks. It is envisaged that these and many more artists will teach, create and exhibit their works at the Canberra Glassworks in the future.
SPRING INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS
28 OCTOBER - 2 NOVEMBER, $990 INC GST
Canberra Glassworks' intensive workshops are designed for those with at least two years glass making behind them and provide the opportunity to participate in a workshop with professionals who are leaders in their field.
Join Klaus Moje, Deb Jones, Jessica Loughlin, Blanche Tilden and Tom Rowney for an intensive workshop this Spring.
GLASS CASTING WITH DEB JONES
Scale Up
Start drawing what you see, then what you think. This class will focus on model making and large scale glass casting processes for those 'big ideas'. Deb Jones will share her knowledge and skills and the techniques necessary to start casting on a larger scale.
KILNFORMING WITH JESSICA LOUGHLIN
Transitions
Distill: ideas to object
Stimulate your idea generation. Students will use Jessica's approach to conceptual development to transform their ideas into a finished piece. Time will be spent on structured experimentation, alongside learning comprehensive kilnforming and coldworking techniques.
FLAMEWORKING WITH BLANCHE TILDEN
Repetition: Ideas Set To The Beat Of The Multiple Object
Explore ideas and express concepts through making multiples. Using the 'Flick Book' as a starting point, and referencing the early photographic studies of movement by Muybridge, students will use lampworking techniques to capture movement, transformation and change.
PUT A TWIST ON THE ITALIAN TECHNIQUES WITH TOM ROWNEY.
Mix up the traditional techniques of caneworking, murrini and incalmo - giving them an up-to-date contemporary slant. Come prepared to experiment and have a whole lot of fun.
